Easy fan

These are the most common; three fan usually come from them:

  • No flowers (1): you drew no flowers all hand.
  • Own flower (1 each): the flowers of your seat. East has Spring and Plum, South has Summer and Orchid, and so on.
  • Concealed hand (1): no chow, pung or exposed kong (a concealed kong is fine).
  • Self-drawn (1): you drew the winning tile yourself.
  • All chows (1): all four sets are runs.
  • Honour pungs (1 each): a pung of Red, Green or White, or of your seat or round wind. East in the East round scores both for East.

Big fan

All pungs: four pungs, 3 fan
Mixed one suit: one suit plus honours, 3 fan (plus 1 for the Red pung here)
Pure one suit: a single suit, 7 fan
Small three dragons: two dragon pungs and a dragon pair, 5 fan

Limit hands

Some hands are “limit hands”: they score the cap straight away with nothing else added — Thirteen Orphans, Nine Gates, Four concealed pungs, Four kongs, Great and Small four winds, All honours, All terminals, Heavenly, Earthly and Human hands, and the flower wins (All eight flowers, Seven flowers rob one).

Nine Gates: concealed 1112345678999 in one suit, waiting on all nine tiles

Only the highest in a family

  • Mixed one suit and pure one suit don’t stack; all honours is a limit hand.
  • Dragon pungs, small three dragons and great three dragons: only the highest counts.
  • Own flowers and flower sets: a full set of four scores the set, not its own flowers.
