Robbing a Kong (搶槓) in Hong Kong Mahjong: Fan, Examples and Odds

Robbing a Kong example: 2-3-4 and 5-6-7 characters, 3-4-5 dots, 7-8-9 bamboo and a pair of 6 bamboo, where the 5 dots was robbed from an added kong

In Hong Kong mahjong, Robbing a Kong (搶槓) is worth 1 fan: another player has a pung, draws the fourth tile and adds it to make a kong — and that tile is exactly what you're waiting on, so you win on it.

It counts as a win on a discard: the player who added the kong pays alone. The tile goes to you and their kong reverts to a pung.

Waiting on 2 or 5 dots; someone has a pung of 5 dots and adds the fourth: rob that 5 dots to win
