Flower Set (Yat Toi Fa) in Hong Kong Mahjong: Fan, Examples and Odds
In Hong Kong mahjong, a Flower Set (一台花) is worth 2 fan: the eight flowers form two sets — the four seasons (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter) and the four plants (Plum, Orchid, Bamboo, Chrysanthemum). If all four of one set are in front of you, that's a Flower Set.
A full set always contains one flower of your own seat, so once it's complete the set scores only the Flower Set's 2 fan — no extra Own Flower on top.

The rules for Flower Set
- All four seasons, or all four plants
- A few of each doesn't count: you need the same set of four
- That set's own flower is included in the Flower Set and not scored again
- An own flower from the other set still scores Own Flower (1 fan)
- All eight flowers aren't two Flower Sets — that's the limit hand All Eight Flowers

Playing with a Flower Set
- Already 2 fan: one more fan reaches the minimum — any small fan (self-draw, concealed, a scoring pung, an own flower from the other set) will do, so play fast.
- One flower short of a set: you can't control flower draws, so don't slow your hand down waiting for it.
- Seven flowers: see Seven Rob One — if someone else draws the eighth, you win.
