Start a new game

Press “Play now” on the home page to open the lobby. For a first game we suggest:

  • Opponents: Beginner. The computer plays loosely and quickly, so you can learn the flow.
  • Length: Quick hand or East round. One hand takes a few minutes; the East round is at least four hands.
  • Keep the default house rules: 3 fan to win, 10-fan limit, half-spicy table, discarder pays. Press “Start”.

The game saves itself. Close the page and come back, and the lobby shows “Continue last game”.

Read the table

You sit at the bottom; the three computer players are left, across and right. First the dice pick the dealer, then the dealer rolls to choose where the wall is broken.

  • Your hand: the bottom row, normally 13 tiles. On your turn you draw one, which waits on the far right.
  • Flowers: drawn flowers are laid out automatically and replaced from the end of the wall. They sit left of your hand; whether you have flowers, and whose they are, changes your fan.
  • Discards: the tiles each player has thrown in front of them — your best clue for defence.
  • The small screen in the middle: tiles left in the wall, the round wind and everyone’s seat wind. The player marked “Dealer” is this hand’s dealer.

Draw one, discard one

On your turn the game draws for you; you only choose a discard. Tap a tile to select it, tap it again to discard. With a keyboard, use the arrow keys to pick and Enter to discard.

You always draw one and discard one until you have “four sets and a pair” — then you can win. See Winning hands for how hands are built.

Chow, pung, kong and win

When someone discards a tile you can use, buttons appear above your hand:

  • Chow: only from the player on your left, to complete a run.
  • Pung: you hold a pair; take the third from anyone.
  • Kong: you hold three; take the fourth, or declare one yourself when you draw it. Then draw a replacement from the end of the wall.
  • Win: this tile completes your hand with enough fan — press it and you win.

Press “Pass” if you don’t want it. Chow and pung expose your tiles, and you lose the concealed-hand fan (1), so think first.

Wait hints and fan

When you are ready, the row above your hand lists the tiles you are waiting on, how many are left, and how many fan each one is worth.

  • Plain fan count: you can win off anyone’s discard.
  • Marked “by self-draw”: you need the extra self-draw fan to reach the minimum.
  • Faded, “only N fan”: even if it comes, you cannot win — rework your hand.

If your hand is complete but under 3 fan, the game tells you it is not enough to win. See Fan table for what every fan is worth.

After a hand

When someone wins or the wall runs out, the result shows the fan, the total and what everyone paid. Press “Next hand” to go on. See Scoring and payouts for how fan become points.
